The Buttafly Technique

For Back Pain Relief, Posture Correction and Greater Vitality

Attain and Maintain a Healthy Spine for LIFE

What would it mean for you to be able to lead a happy, healthy life by virtue of a healthy spine?

For many people, the “spine” has become synonymous with “back pain”. There are several key reasons for this (and, likely, less obvious ones), but the upshot is that they have created a detrimental diversion away from any understanding of the spine as an instrument of health.

At the same time, the global burden of back pain continues to rise. Many people are suffering in silence, with no clue as to how to help themselves, and living in fear of their prognosis.

In 2020, low back pain affected 619 million people globally. It is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. Ref: https://www.who.int

In the last two decades, nearly 10,000 papers have been published on low back pain and physical activity alone. Ref: https://doi.org/10.2147/JPR.S312614

Yet, despite extensive research in all areas of low back pain, the prevalence of low back pain and years lived with disability has little changed, if at all.

“A fresh approach is desperately needed. Together with Buttafly, I offer a paradigm shift that is as much about a holistic approach to the assessment of back pain and education on mind-body root causes as it is about providing sustainable and lasting solutions.”

“In working with such clients, the Buttafly Technique has proven more consistently effective than anything I used in my 30-year career as a physio. As well as providing pain relief, it gives them an invaluable sense of hope and something positive they can do for themselves, as and when they need it.

Further, anecdotal evidence shows that the Technique reduces chronicity and the incidence of recurrent episodes.”

What is the Buttafly Technique?

The Buttafly is carefully positioned in supine lying to effectively ‘float’ the base of the spine.

This has the effect of facilitating a natural release and realignment of the spine, orchestrated by the wisdom in your body and bringing your whole being back into balance.

The Buttafly Technique is very different from having a hands-on treatment where the spine is mobilised or manipulated from the outside.

Rather, the spine is given a chance to find its way, at its own pace, and in harmony with the whole of you.

Before and After

The Buttafly Effect

In many cases, the benefits of the Buttafly Technique are far greater than could be imagined for such a ‘low level’ of intervention – hence our use of the term the Buttafly Effect.

This is because the Technique impacts not only the structure of the spine itself but also the craniosacral and nervous systems that run through the spinal canal. These are the principle governing systems of the body and supporting them in this way promotes deep relaxation and healing from the inside.

Regular use of the Buttafly offers both symptom relief and preventative care.

The Technique can be used for daily self-care of the spine in much the same way as one uses a toothbrush to clean the teeth and promote long-term oral health.

The Buttafly Technique is also available as a treatment by practitioners who have completed the required training.

Specific Benefits of the Buttafly Technique

From the time you wake up in the morning every thought, action and emotion plays out in the body disturbing the natural alignment of your spine.

This should be nothing to worry about as, to deal with the consequences of life, you are born with inherent wisdom in your body. This wisdom grew you from the point of conception and knows how to heal burns, mend broken bones, expel toxins and bring your spine back into balance.

The problem comes when the body becomes overwhelmed and cannot keep up with the demands of life. This always impacts the alignment of the spine – although not necessarily to the extent that it causes back pain. The Buttafly Technique can be used for the following:

  • Effortless good posture
  • Less back pain
  • An easy way to relax
  • Improved mobility
  • Better balance
  • Restful sleep
  • Greater vitality
  • Mental clarity
  • Emotional resilience
  • Women’s and Men’s Health conditions

The physical body is a  continuum, and every part of it is connected to every other part of the body in some way or another.

When you have pain anywhere in the body, it will always impact the spine.

Neck and shoulder pain will cause you to hold yourself stiffly – and if you can’t turn your head fully to reverse your car, somewhere else along the length of the spine will have to make up for the shortfall.

A limp will affect the realignment of the whole body even when there is no pain attached to it. Think of what it’s like to walk when you have a stone in your shoe!

The Buttafly and this exciting development for the treatment of back pain has been developed by Loulou James, MCSP (Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy), an intuitive and experienced Spinal Health Specialist with 30 years of clinical experience as a physiotherapist in the NHS, the military, and private practice.

It’s how Loulou cured her back problems after fracturing her spine in a roller-blading accident. Since then, she’s gone on to use it with the majority of her clients and finds that everyone feels the benefit.

"The body has a deep intelligence and the capacity to bring itself back into balance. That said, we rarely, if at all, consider how this applies to the spine and posture. But it does, and the Buttafly Technique harnesses it beautifully.”

“I find as a keyboard-based worker that my back often gets achy towards the end of the day, and that’s how it was when I went to see Loulou and check out the Buttafly.

After a quick look at me in standing, she soon had me lying on the floor with the Buttafly positioned in a comfortable position so that my back was tilted up away from the floor.

I laid there for around four minutes but even within a minute or so I could start to feel my back settling into a more comfortable profile, and the tension easing. It was amazing how quickly I could feel the difference as my body adjusted deeply to the new alignment.

After the Buttafly was taken away I laid back flat on the floor and could feel how much my shape had changed. It was even more obvious when I stood up, as you can see from the photos. It’s amazing how having the right support can adjust your posture.”

“The Buttafly has been a life-changer. I’ve had chronic back pain and sciatica for almost 30 years now. I’ve been to physiotherapists, chiropractors, and osteopaths – all have helped in their own but nothing has really resolved the problem. But I’ve recently discovered the Buttafly and it’s been an absolute revelation to me.”
